Everyone at England Darts
were saddened to learn that Colin Saunders had passed away overnight.
Colin was one of the
original Directors of England when it was formed in 2007 and he was
instrumental in finding and agreeing an initial deal with Bunn Leisure,
which has built into a long time partnership that we still enjoy today
and this is a fitting legacy for Colin.
In addition to his
position with England, he was County secretary of the Isle of Wight and
he also spent time as a BDO Director.
Our thoughts are with his
family at this sad time.
England
Youth Pentathlons
Saturday 7th November was a unique day for
youth darts as England Darts staged the inaugural England Youth Darts
Pentathlon at the New Trinity Club in Hull.
We believe that there may have been only
one other youth pentathlon, held in the 1970's, but it is almost certainly
the first ever girls pentathlon.
Ten girls and ten boys competed for the
respective pentathlon championships, invitations for these events were based
on the England youth ranking tables, plus one invited player in each event
from the host venue.
Of the twenty players present only Beau
Greaves, had previously played in a pentathlon competition, when she won the
Ladies British Pentathlon earlier this year.
And it proved to be another good day for
Beau as she was a clear winner of the girls event, with her World Cup
winning partner Shannon Reeves taking second place, third place went to
Ashleigh Turner.
In the boys event it was a close from the
first dart right through to the last. The eventual winner was current
England Matchplay Champion, Charlie Manby. He finished three points ahead of
runner up Luke Littler, who himself was just one point ahead of third placed
Connor Arberry.

of the teams victories.

Youth
Pentathlon Competitions
As part of England Darts
commitment to giving the youth players of England more opportunities to develop
their skills and gain more experience, we are pleased to announce that a
separate girls and boys Pentathlon competitions will be played on Saturday 7th
December 2019.
We believe that it will be the
first ever girls pentathlon event and the first boys event for several decades
and as such will be exciting for the youngsters invited into the respective
competitions, to hone their skills in the pentathlon format.
The youth pentathlons will
be run along the lines of the ladies and men's pentathlons, which are run by
England Darts at the respective Selsey Festivals. Whilst the senior pentathlons
are open to twenty invited players, these youth pentathlons will be restricted
to ten players in both the girls and boys. The points system used will be the
same as the seniors, so in addition to each player playing the other nine
players in two legs of 501, they will also play the 'special games' of 1001,
2001, Round the Board on Doubles, Shanghi and Halve-It. (Full details can be
found by clicking on the
Pentathlon Page,
including the scoring system).
We are very pleased to welcome the
New Trinity Club in Hull as the host of both the youth pentathlons, the club is
already the host venue for the Humberside Youth teams and we would like to thank
Carl South for his support in staging this unique day of darts for the invited
youth players.
As a reward for their commitment
to the England Darts system both the youth pentathlons will be competed by the
top eight players in the respective England Youth rankings, plus one player as
invited by England Darts and finally one player chosen by Carl and his team at
the New Trinity Club.
As well as equal numbers of
players, playing the same format we are also pleased to announce that a total of
£1,480 will be equally split between the girls and boys competitions on the day.
If anyone would like to add to the prize fund with some sponsorship, please
contact
bradley.kirk@englanddarts.co.uk
For anyone that wants to come
along on 7th December to the New Trinity Club, we are pleased to confirm that
entrance is free as we want as many people as possible to be there to support
the youths, anyone who is a competent marker can also volunteer to help out on
the day, it will be a great place to watch the undoubted skills of the players
we hope will go onto being top players for many years to come.
As the players are confirmed and
announced their photos and profiles can be seen by clicking on the Youth Pentathlon
page.

World Cup 2019 Announcement
It is with regret that England has received the following message from Trina
Gulliver MBE that due to personal reasons she needs to withdraw from the 2019
World Cup team.
Trina has said. " I am gutted that I've had to make this
decision but I've done it in the interest of both parties. I feel that at this
point in time, due to personal reasons, that I wouldn't give a creditable
performance for the England team. My loyalty and passion for England is second
to none. Therefore I'm stepping down for this event as I feel that there are
better players at this point in time that can do better for the team. I wish my
replacement and the WHOLE team the very best of luck. Bring it home England.". X
A replacement will be announced
as soon as possible.

ENGLAND DARTS YOUTH INITIATIVES
We at England Darts are excited to announce new
initiatives to cultivate the future stars in our sport, the amazing youth have
made some massive achievements in recent times, from 9 darters and BDO
Tournament wins and other amazing achievements shows the youth have the future
of our sport in safe hands! We believe that the announcement of the following
three announcements show our organisations commitment to the youth players in
our system.
The first initiative involved one our invitational events, The
England Matchplay held annually at the England Classic weekend in September at
Selsey. For the past few years it has invited 8 Boys and 4 Girls into the event
through the England Youth Rankings. We have now agreed to increase the number of
invitations to 12 boys and 8 girls, with some changes in the qualifying for the
event. The winners from all of our events including the winners from our second
initiative will all receive invites as well as the top players from the England
Rankings and our Overall Grand Prix Tables giving players more chances to
receive an invite and players who choose not to play County Youth a viable
chance to qualify for this event. We are happy with this increase over the whole
weekend 24 different youth players have the opportunity to play on our stream
with the England Classic Youth finals but are guaranteed to have at least 20
faces get some exposure through.
Our second announcement is a brand new competition for the Youth
players, for the past few years England Darts have been hosting the British
Pentathlon since the retirement of the events Founder Sam Hawkins and we are
pleased to announce we will now be bringing the event to Boys and Girls in a
world’s first for the pentathlon format. The £1,480 prize fund event will take
place in Hull in December with the Boys and Girls events taking place side by
side with each other with 10 of the top boys and 10 top girls in the England
Darts System taking part. As a further reward to players loyal to our events the
top 8 in the overall Grand Prix tables at the end of the season will receive an
invite to this event along with the two final spots being announced in due
course. We are delighted to have Carl South on board with him proving the venue
at The New Trinity Club in Hull after he hosted one of our recent Grand Prix
Events.
Our final announcement comes in the form of a new annual award in
memory of two people with massive involvements with England Darts sadly no
longer with us. At England Darts we value all players but those who try to
improve their game and play the game in a sporting manner we believe deserves to
be rewarded. The Julie Vickers Memorial Award and the Gerry Haywood Memorial
Award will reward one boy & one girl each year, we would like to thank all those
that have donated to England Darts for the Youth in the past couple of weeks,
they have helped get these plans off the ground In a short time, personally my
thanks goes to our recently retired officials Don Vickers & Dawn Speed who have
made generous donations as their parting gifts and to the England Internationals
past & present that have also donated back into the system they have represented
so well at International Level including Fallon Sherrock, James Hurrell, Daniel
Day and Glen Durrant along with others who have wished to remain anonymous, we
appreciate their support in helping provide opportunities for youth players
across the country. Our final thanks goes to our amazing Youth Ambassador, Deta
Hedman who also made a generous donation with the stipulation we introduce the
Julie Vickers & Gerry Haywood Memorial Awards, and her support for the youth
game has been phenomenal.
If you wish to make a donation or would like to be a board
sponsor, event sponsor or season sponsor, don’t hesitate to contact Deta or any
one of the England Officials, we are also looking for venue s that would want to
host a Youth Grand Prix Event in 2020 and should contact one of our officials or
Bradley Kirk via email at bkirkenglanddarts@gmail.com

ISLE OF MAN FESTIVAL
England has to clarify that the Isle of Man 2020
will be held at the Villa Marina, between Thursday 12th March to Sunday 15th
March inclusive. This is a change from the published date on the BDO and England
Diaries.
The confusion has resulted by a combination of
conflicting correspondence, which we didn't check before the dates were
published, as a result if anyone has already their flights for the previous
week, please contact us with a copy of a valid booking form, and we will deal
with it.
Once again England unreservedly apologises for
this error, and any distress this may have caused.
EUROPE CUP YOUTH - GIRLS TAKE OVERALL TITLE &
BOYS ARE RUNNERS UP
England's Medal Winners
Boys Singles Bronze (Keelan) & Gold
(Leighton)
Girls Pairs Champions & Singles Bronze
Overall Girls Champions
Boys Team Bronze
Day three was the final day of the 2019 Europe
Cup Youth Championship and they went into the day with a chance of winning the
girls and gaining a medal in the boys and that is exactly what happened as the
girls retained the title and the boys took a silver medal behind the
Netherlands.
The first player in action was Leighton Bennett
in the singles semi final and he took his place in the final with a 2-0 sets win
over Netherlands Luke van der Kwast. The next player in action was Beau Greaves
in the girls semi final, but a 0-3 defeat against Hungarian Tamara Kovacs, who
turned out to be the eventual champion, meant the overall title was still in the
balance.
Things were still going against England as the
boys team let a 4-3 lead slip against the Republic of Ireland and they lost the
semi final 9-4, once again losing to the eventual champions. However things
improved in the next two games as first Leighton Bennett took the singles title
and gold medal with a 3-1 sets win over Jurjen van der Velde, that also sealed
the silver medal in the overall table.
The girls pairs was the next game on and a very
close match against Scotland's McKinlay & O'Brien and Shannon and Beau
eventually hit the winning double to gain a 4-3 win to gain the pairs gold medal
and after a nervous wait they were also confirmed as the overall title winners
as well.

EUROPE CUP YOUTH
Day two of the Youth Europe Cup saw the girls
play their singles event, with all players being in a round robin groups. Beau
Greaves won all four of her games to win her group, but unfortunately Shannon
Reeves only won one of her games and didn't qualify for the last eight games.
Beau won her last eight match 3-1 against Sophie McKinlay (Scotland) to move
into Saturday's semi final where she will play Tamara Kovacs (Hungary).
Later on the girls were back in action as they
played the semi final of the pairs and we are delighted that they beat the Dutch
pairing of Rietbergen & Van der Velde 3-1 to gain a place in Saturday's final
against the Scottish pair of McKinlay & O'Brien.
The boys were in action in the tem event and they
won their group after beating both Hungary and Turkey 9-3, this got them into
the last eight where another 9-3 victory over Wales put them into Saturday's
semi final where they will play the Republic of Ireland.
The final match saw Keelan and Brad narrowly lose
2-3 to against Van der Velde/Van der Kwast of the Netherlands and so had to
settle for a bronze medal. But on a positive note all six England players are
guaranteed to come home with at least one medal each.

EUROPE CUP YOUTH
Day one of the Youth Europe Cup saw both the
girls and boys start their pairs event and it turned out to be a good day for
the England pairings, the girls pair of Shannon Reeves and Beau Greaves lost
their first game but then won the next three to finish second in the group and
gain a place in the quarter finals, where they beat the German pair to gain a
place in Friday's semi finals where they will play the Dutch pairing of
Rietbergen & Van der Velde.
The boys pairs of Keelan Kay & Brad Phillips and
Leighton Bennett & Mitchell McCarthy both won all their group games to win their
respective groups that put them in the last sixteen. Leighton & Mitchell won 3-1
against a Scottish pair before losing 1-3 in the quarter finals to a Gibraltar
pair. Keelan & Brad won their last sixteen match 3-0 against a German pair and
then had a narrow 3-2 win against a Hungarian pair to move into Friday's semi
final against Van der Velde/Van der Kwast of the Netherlands.
The boys then moved onto their singles event,
where Keelan and Leighton won their groups, Brad finished second and so all
three of them qualified for the last thirty two, unfortunately Mitchell missed
out as he finished third in his group. Brad lost at this stage, but Keelan and
Leighton both won their last thirty two and last sixteen matches to take a place
in the quarter finals which were played over best of three sets. Keelan lost 1-2
to Marcel Bus (Netherlands) whilst Leighton beat Connor Hopkins (Wales) 2-0 to
gain a place in Saturday's semi finals where he will be joined by three Dutch
players.
